News  Starter Guide

Welcome

Welcome to the starter guide to RagnaCraft, a SMP Minecraft server. Currently the server supports an economy, player-run towns, land buying, shops, a friendly community and a whole lot more! The server is in fairly rapid development, so bear with us as some details may be a little out-of-date by time you log-in.

This guide should provide an in-depth explanation of the server and what it offers. If you would prefer to get a general idea of the server and jump into the game as soon as possible, read over our quick start guide directly below.

Quick Start Guide

In order to access the server, you must register on the RagnaCraft forum. This is a sepcific type of whitelisting the server uses. To register on the forums:

- Access the registration page here
- Ensure that you use your exact Minecraft account/character name (required to be whitelisted)
- After about a 1 minute delay (from registering) you should be able to log on

Upon logging into the server (IP and status found in top right of this website) you will spawn in Juno, town of the sky. Before explaining how to leave the spawn town, there are a few important topics to cover.

  • Server Rules - No griefing, cheating, stealing, mods or hacks. If caught, you will be kicked and banned.
  • Currency - The currency or money used on the server is called Gil. Type the command /money to see how much you have.
  • Build Rights - Building is restricted in Juno, the starting city, as well as within a certain radius of the city. This radius is 1000 blocks from the spawn. (with the exception of player towns that allow public building). You can build anywhere in the world.
  • RPG Theme - Although RagnaCraft has role-playing elements and features, it is NOT strictly role-playing. In other-words, the server uses various RPG elements (skills, abilities & levels) but does not require strict role-playing.
  • Moderator Help - Moderators are there to help, but do not traditonally bug them byasking for them constantly. If there is a problem, please use /Modreq

The majority of the basic server information and brief plugin commands can be found on the Server Info page.

Now that the basics are out of the way, you can begin your adventure! Feel free to explore the small town of Juno, or just explore the lands. If you are worried about getting lost or just want to view the entire world. The Dynamic Map is a valuable asset. There are generally two ways to leave the spawn town and begin your adventure. To leave Juno:

Head to the North end of the town. There will be a bridge you can cross to enter the wilderness and begin your adventure.

or

Head to the center of the town and locate the stairs leading down.

That about sums up the basic information you need to start playing on the RagnaCraft Server. The rest of this guide is dedicated most of the in-depth details of what the server has to offer. It is recommended to give the entire guide a read to familiarize yourself with the finer details and to eliminate any questions you may have. Another great use for this guide is using it as a quick reference tool. If you have any further questions after reading or searching the guide, don't hesitate to ask in-game. Welcome to RagnaCraft!

Juno is the spawning city for all new-comers to the server. It is a town of the sky, as it floats above the land. Juno contains a few player owned shops, as well as houses. In order to leave the city one must take the bridge on the North end of the city, or pay to take an airship to another city. There is a 500 block radius where you cannot build surrounding Juno, Please leave it to build

Player Created Towns & Nations

The RagnaCraft server uses the towny plugin. This allows players to create their own Towns and Nations (Nations essentially contain multiple Towns). This guide contains the basics of towny below. For a full list of commands, a tutorial and more documentation have a look here excellent guide written by FIT29

- It costs 125,000gil to set up a Town (collaborate with other players to raise the funds!)
- It costs 100,000gil to set up a Nation (only available in PvP world Muspell. At least one Town for the Nation is required)
- Nations can 'contain' multiple Towns. Members of a Nation can build in all Towns that are part of that Nation
- Expanding Towns to more areas costs 500gil per area
- Warping to a Towns spawn point will cost 30gil
- Town owners set taxes which are taken from members every one real time day
- Type /towny in-game to view towny help and commands
- Type /town list or /nation list in-game for a list of player Towns & Nations
- For some towns, You need to ask permission before entering.

Currency

Currency System

The currency in RagnaCraft is Gil. Typically Gil is used as a monetary value to buy, sell and trade on the server. Gil has many uses on the server, to name a few... it is used in setting up shops and towns, taking airships, setting a home spawn location and buying items from other players.

Typing /money in-game will allow you to view your current funds.

Typing /money pay [player] [amount] will allow you to give Gil to another player. For example to give the player Sunwind 5 Gil, one would type /money pay Sunwind 5

Popular Ways to Earn Money

Selling Gold

Gold in RagnaCraft is used to set the standard economy. Each Gold ingot is worth 245gil on the server. Juno and Jeres contain a Mint that buys unlimited gold ingots. You can also buy gold from the mint at a higher price. This will allow your to cash in any gold you have for Gil, or withdraw gold ingots from your funds to store safely in a chest. Mining for gold, particularly in abandoned mineshafts, is an excellent way to earn a steady income.

Killing Monsters

Killing monsters in RagnaCraft will earn you Gil. Each monster has a random range of Gil that is awarded. Creepers tend to payout the highest, as they are the most dangerous and trickiest to kill. A decent amount of Gil can be earned from roaming the wilderness fields at night. You are unable to farm spawners however.

Selling Items to Player Shops

Many players in RagnaCraft manage their own shops. Depending on the goods these player's shops are willing to buy, you can make a nice pocket of Gil. Players set the prices they are willing to pay (so be sure to look for the highest paying shops!). Keep in mind most shops only deal with certain goods, thus they may only buying certain items. The using shops section further details how to sell your items to player shops.

Setting Up Your Own Shop

Creating your own shop and selling goods that are of worth value is another excellent way to earn Gil. This one is a bit tricky to start off with because you must first earn the Gil to purchase a shop. Gathering resources and selling them to other players at the best price can allow you to earn a fair amount of income. For full details on buying, creating and using shops check out this section

Using Shops

RagnaCraft currently uses the localshops plugin. This allows players to create their own shops and buy from other player?s shops. In order to set up a shop within a city or town, one must first buy or create a shop stall.
There are many player shops created around the RagnaCraft world. In order to buy and sell from a shop, do the following:

- Upon viewing the items and prices of the shop, if you would like to buy something type /shop buy [itemName] <quantity>
- For example, to buy 1 gold ingot from the Juno Mint, you would type /shop buy goldingot to buy 5 gold ingots one would type /shop buy goldingot 5

Selling

- To see what the shop is currently buying type /shop browse sell
- Upon viewing the items and prices of the shop, if the shop is buying what you want to sell you may type /shop sell [itemname] <quantity>
- For example, to sell 1 gold ingot to the Juno Mint, you would type /shop sell goldingot 1 to sell 5 gold ingots one would type /shop sell goldingot 5

Death

What Happens on Death

Death generally acts the same way it does in standard Minecraft. Upon losing all your health and XP and dying you will return to your spawn location.

If you are carrying a chest or two upon dying, the chests will be placed and filled with as many items in your inventory as possible. Note that this also includes in and under lava which can be very useful. You then have 6 hours to retrieve your items before the chest disappears

Teleport & Spawn Commands

Home Command

RagnaCraft has a plugin that support a home spawn location (Aesir only, not in PVP world Muspell). Setting a spawn location allows you to teleport to that spot at any time. Due note however, that setting your spawn location comes at a cost of 150gil and actually spawning to it costs 50gil. There will be a 5 second wait between entering the comand and the actual teleportation, so be warned. The reason for this feature costing Gil is to prevent players from exploiting and abusing the home spawn method.

To set your spawn location to the chunk you are currently standing on, type /home set

To spawn to your current home location type /home

Town Spawn Command

Town spawning is not supported. This means that you have to find alternative travels to towns, such as rail, or airship.

Mini-Games

Monster Arena

The Monster arena mini-game occurs OUTSIDE of Juno. Players can work in a co-operative means to slaughter monsters that come to attack them. The features of this game are as follows:

- Enter the Monster arena by typing in /MA J When you have NO ITEMS EQUIPPED OR IN YOUR INVENTORY
- There is a place Next to the Arena that players may place their items if needed or inbetween arena battles. Please Read the signs outside of the Arena to further help
- There are 6 different classes (Which can be changed by administrator at any time). Each class has it's own specialty and usage.
- The Further you reach, the better prizes that will be given. Work hard to find out all the prizes that you can get.

- Exploiting glitches in the arena will result in a ban or a kick! This means no making forts out of blocks or fences in order to defend yourself from monster attacks. (I.E No cake walls or forts, as they can crash the server.)

Skills & Abilities

How Skills Work

The RagnaCraft server uses the MMO plugin. This enables an RPG element of skills and levels. Skills improve the task by helping in various ways. For example, a high mining level allows for double dropping of blocks.

Most skills also have special abilities that ease tedious jobs. An example of this is the Super Breaker ability for mining. When active it will allow you to single click blocks to mine them (making mining ridiculously fast), keep in mind your durability decreases at a much faster rate however. In order to activate a special ability click the right mouse button while holding an item to activate (example: right click while holding a pickaxe)

In order to view your skills and levels type /stats
To further detail a specific skill type /[Skillname] example /mining

Craftbook

How Craftbook Works.

Craftbook is a plugin introduced for bukkit that most commonly allows the usage of Working gates and bridges.

Signs are required to use these features.

For Example:Bridges can be created by placing Cobblestone down between two points. The first point will have a sign with [Bridge] on the second line of the sign., while the second point will have [Bridge end] on the second line of the sign.
